Edmund's fleeting notes

"Study hard what interests you the most in the most undisciplined, irreverent and original manner possible." — Richard Feynman

DeepSeek shipped their own coding agent this month and it reads AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md natively, even collapsing the two when they're identical. That's the exact convention I use to keep my workspace readable by any agent, not just Claude. Good to watch a convention win on its own instead of by decree.

Most software today is built for mass consumption, but the things you can build for yourself feel a lot more like kitchen tools: familiar, sharp, durable, and shaped to how you actually work day to day. I believe this is the direction AI use will take us in more and more.

The scriptorium and the machine

Trying to blend two things in my studio: the patient, slow care for language, culture, and memory from the old monastic scriptoriums, plus the crazy speed of modern AI tools.

I love making physical things like field notebooks, embroidered hats, and letterpress cards alongside software. It grounds the digital work in something you can actually hold. It's a practice and opportunity in creating shared visual language and mythology. It's an invitation to join a community. And it is just......cool.

Crowdfunded research

Really inspired by independent research models like Ink & Switch funded directly by patrons and guilds instead of VC. Just building tools for thought out in the open where anyone can watch the process.

The simulation inversion

If you don't write down what you actually think, future AI models will still guess at who you are, just from a blank slate. Putting raw notes out there gives both people and models something real to work with.

Social feeds push you to perform and argue. Having your own quiet site with good type and permalinks just feels a whole lot healthier. And its a great way to structure and build your body of work in public.
